Rations

Meat, cheese, butter, eggs and sweets were all rationed. Potatoes, vegetables and bread were not rationed during the war.

Everyone had a ration book and had to be registered at a shop to get their rations. There were three colours of ration book. Everyone over fourteen had a beige coloured book. Babies and toddlers had pink books.Children between four and fourteen had blue books.

The different books allowed people to get the different items they needed.
